System design interview

A system design interview asks the candidate to design a large software system, such as a URL shortener or news feed, and evaluates requirements gathering, architecture, and trade-off reasoning rather than a single correct answer.

Clarify requirements, estimate scale, sketch a high-level design, then go deep on the hardest part and discuss failure. Start simple and add components only when you can say why.
