Sideline: let someone you trust follow your live interview session

Invite one helper from the Aissence desktop app. They open a page in their browser, see your screen and the live transcript as they happen, and send you short notes or formatted code that appear in your assistant. No audio is shared, and they cannot control your computer.

Pair in seconds

Send your helper a link once, or share a User ID and 6-digit code in the middle of a session.

They see what you see

A live view of your screen and the interview transcript, so their advice is about the question you were actually asked.

Notes land where you look

Text and formatted code show up in your assistant, labelled with your helper’s name, next to the transcript.

How it works

  1. Your helper creates a link in the Aissence web app (free account) from the Sideline page.
  2. You link them once by opening that link, or skip this and share a code during the session.
  3. You start a live session in the desktop app. A linked helper who has Sideline open gets a Join prompt and joins from their browser.
  4. They watch and send notes. You stay in control: switch the screen or transcript off, or remove them, at any time.

The full walkthrough, with both pairing methods, is in the Sideline setup guide.

What your helper can and cannot do

Your helper canYour helper cannot
See your screen while screen sharing is onHear the interviewer or you (no audio is sent)
Read the live transcript while it is onControl your mouse, keyboard or files
Send text notes and labelled code blocksJoin without you linking them or sharing a code
Rejoin if their connection dropsStay connected after you remove them or end the session

One helper can be connected at a time. Codes last 10 minutes and lock after five wrong attempts.

Good uses, and its limits

  • A mentor or friend who knows your field watches a technical round and sends a code hint, where outside help is allowed.
  • A coach reviews how you handle a live session with the transcript in front of them.
  • It does not make up for preparation. Practice first with a mock interview.
  • The screen view is not video. It refreshes a couple of times a second and is shown only when something changes.

Privacy

Sideline runs inside the Aissence desktop app and does not join your meeting as a participant. The relay that connects you to your helper passes the screen and transcript through without storing them. Details are on the privacy and safety page.

Frequently asked questions

What is Sideline?

Sideline is a feature of the Aissence desktop app. During a live session you invite one person you trust. They open Aissence in their browser, see your screen and the live transcript, and send you short notes or formatted code that appear in your assistant.

Does my helper need to install anything or pay?

No. Your helper uses a current desktop browser and a free Aissence account. You run the Aissence desktop app, and Sideline works within your free trial minutes or your plan like any other live session.

Can my helper hear the interviewer?

No. Sideline does not send any audio. Your helper reads the live transcript text and sees your screen. If you turn the transcript off, they see only your screen.

Can my helper control my computer?

No. Your helper can only send you notes and code. They cannot click, type or open anything on your computer.

How do I stop sharing?

Open the Sideline button in your assistant. You can switch screen sharing and the transcript off independently, remove the helper, or end the session. Removing the helper closes their connection straight away.

How do my helper and I connect?

Two ways. Send a link: your helper shares a personal link, you link them once, and while they have Sideline open they get a Join prompt whenever you start a live session. Enter a code: during a session you copy your User ID and a 6-digit access code, and your helper enters both. Codes expire after 10 minutes and lock after five wrong attempts.

How fast is it?

Notes and transcript lines are sent as they happen. The screen view refreshes about twice a second and only when something changes, so it can lag on a slow connection.

Is my screen or transcript stored?

The Sideline relay passes the screen and transcript through to your helper and does not store them. Your own session transcript is saved to your history, as it is for any live session.

Am I allowed to use it in my interview?

That depends on the employer. Many interviews forbid any outside help, and being found out can end your application. Read your interview instructions and ask the recruiter if it is unclear. Where it is not allowed, do not use it; practice with a friend in a mock interview instead.
