How to Set Up Your Interview Copilot for Your First Interview

Step-by-Step: From Zero to Interview-Ready
Setting up an interview copilot for the first time is easier than you think. The whole process takes about 10 minutes. Here's exactly what to do.
Step 1: Create Your Account (2 minutes)
- Go to aissence.ai/sign-up
- Create an account with your email
- No credit card required for the free plan
Step 2: Choose Web or Desktop (1 minute)
You have two options:
- Web app — Best for practice sessions, mock interviews, and resume building. Works in any browser
- Desktop app — Essential for live interviews. Provides the undetectable stealth overlay that's invisible to screen sharing
For your first real interview, download the desktop app. For practice, the web app works fine.
Step 3: Add Your AI Key (2 minutes)
AissenceAI uses BYOK (Bring Your Own Key), which means your interview data goes directly to your AI provider, not through AissenceAI's servers.
- Get an API key from OpenAI (platform.openai.com), Anthropic, or Google AI
- Go to Settings → AI Configuration in AissenceAI
- Paste your key and select your preferred model (GPT-4o recommended for most users)
Step 4: Test Audio (2 minutes)
The copilot needs to hear the interview. Test that it's picking up both:
- Your microphone — It needs to hear you for context
- System audio — It needs to hear the interviewer through Zoom/Meet/Teams
Run a quick test by playing a YouTube video and checking that the copilot transcribes it correctly.
Step 5: Position the Overlay (1 minute)
If using the desktop app:
- Place the overlay near your webcam — just below or to the side of it
- Adjust the transparency so it's readable but not distracting
- Size it so you can see key points at a glance without scrolling
Step 6: Do a Practice Run (5+ minutes)
Before your real interview, do at least one mock interview with the copilot active. This is crucial — it teaches you:
- Where to look when checking suggestions
- How quickly suggestions appear
- How to reference them without reading word-for-word
Interview Day Checklist
- Open AissenceAI desktop app 10 minutes before the interview
- Verify audio capture is working
- Position overlay near webcam
- Join the video call
- The copilot starts automatically when it detects conversation
Common First-Timer Mistakes
- Not testing audio beforehand — Don't discover audio issues during your actual interview
- Overlay too far from webcam — Your eyes visibly shift when looking at suggestions
- Reading suggestions word-for-word — Practice the glance technique in mock sessions first
- Not doing a practice session — Familiarity with the tool matters. Don't use it for the first time in a real interview
Create your free account and start practicing today. Your first real interview with the copilot should feel as natural as checking your notes.
