Tutorial: Configure Desktop App Stealth Mode
AissenceAI's stealth mode makes the overlay completely invisible to screen recording, screen sharing, and proctoring software. This tutorial covers the technical setup for Windows and macOS.
How Stealth Mode Works
On Windows, AissenceAI uses the WDA_EXCLUDEFROMCAPTURE flag, which instructs the operating system to exclude the window from all capture APIs (BitBlt, DirectX). On macOS, it uses CGWindowLevel settings that place the overlay above screen capture boundaries. This is the same technique used by password managers and DRM software.
Windows Setup
- Install the desktop app from aissence.ai/desktop-app
- Launch as Administrator for full capture exclusion support
- Settings → Stealth → Enable "Exclude from Screen Capture"
- Test: Open OBS or Windows Screen Recorder and verify the overlay is invisible
macOS Setup
- Install the desktop app and grant Accessibility permissions
- Settings → Stealth → Enable stealth overlay
- Test: Use QuickTime Screen Recording and verify invisibility
Overlay Positioning Tips
- Position near your webcam so eye movement appears natural
- Use transparency (60-80%) so you can see through it
- Set hotkey for toggle (default: Ctrl+Shift+Space) for quick show/hide
