Stealth Mode — Invisible AI Coaching During Your Real Interview

Stealth mode is the reason most people choose AissenceAI. It's a desktop overlay that shows AI suggestions only on your screen while the interviewer sees your normal video feed. Here's exactly how to set it up before your interview day.

1

Go to /desktop-app and Download the Installer for Your Operating System

Open your browser and navigate to the Desktop App page. Download the installer for Windows, macOS, or Linux. The installer is about 80–120 MB depending on your platform.

  • Windows: .exe installer. macOS: .dmg file. Linux: .AppImage or .deb depending on your distro.
  • Make sure you're downloading from the official AissenceAI website — don't use third-party links.
  • If your browser blocks the download, click "Keep" or allow it in your security settings. It's a standard Tauri-based desktop application.
2

Install the App — It Takes About 90 Seconds

Run the installer and follow the prompts. On Windows, you may see a SmartScreen warning — click "More info" → "Run anyway." On macOS, right-click the app and select Open the first time.

  • No admin privileges are required on most systems.
  • The app installs to your user directory by default.
  • After installation, the app opens automatically. If it doesn't, find "AissenceAI" in your applications.
3

Open the App and Sign In with Your AissenceAI Account

Launch the desktop app and sign in with the same email and password you use for the web app. Your sessions, settings, and preferences sync automatically.

  • If you use social login (Google, GitHub) on the web app, use the same method in the desktop app.
  • Your subscription status carries over — no separate license needed for the desktop app.
  • If sign-in fails, check that you're using the same account. There's no separate desktop account.
4

Go to Desktop App → Stealth Mode to Configure Settings

In the desktop app's sidebar, navigate to Stealth Mode under Settings. Here you configure the overlay appearance, position, opacity, and hotkey bindings.

  • The overlay is a transparent window that sits on top of other applications.
  • You can adjust the opacity so the overlay is subtle enough not to distract you but visible enough to read.
  • Set the font size to whatever is comfortable to read at a glance — larger is usually better.
5

Position the Overlay on a Second Monitor or in a Corner of Your Screen

Drag the overlay to your preferred position. If you have a second monitor, place it there so it's completely out of view of your webcam. If you're on a single monitor, position it near the top of the screen close to your webcam.

  • Dual monitors: place the overlay on the non-camera monitor for the most natural setup.
  • Single monitor: position it right below or beside the webcam so glancing at it looks like you're maintaining eye contact.
  • The overlay is invisible to screen-sharing tools like Zoom, Teams, and Google Meet — the interviewer cannot see it.
6

Use the Hotkey to Toggle Visibility

The default hotkey is Ctrl+Shift+H (Windows/Linux) or Cmd+Shift+H (macOS). Press it to instantly hide or show the overlay. Practice this before your interview so it's muscle memory.

  • You can customize the hotkey in Stealth Mode settings if the default conflicts with other software.
  • Hide the overlay before sharing your screen — even though screen-sharing tools can't see it, being cautious is smart.
  • The hotkey works globally, even when another application is in focus.
7

Start a Session from the Desktop App, Then Join Your Interview Call

In the desktop app, create a new session (just like Interview Assistant on the web). Upload your resume and job description, then join your interview call on Zoom, Teams, Google Meet, or any video platform.

  • Start the AissenceAI session first, then join the video call. The AI needs to be listening before the conversation begins.
  • The desktop app captures system audio automatically — this is how it hears the interviewer through your call software.
  • Make sure your mic is selected correctly in the desktop app settings, not just in your video call software.
8

The Overlay Shows Real-Time AI Suggestions as the Interviewer Speaks

Once the interview begins, the AI transcribes the interviewer's questions and generates talking points, follow-up suggestions, and key phrases. These appear in the overlay as compact, scannable bullet points.

  • Suggestions update every few seconds as the AI processes the conversation.
  • The most relevant suggestion is highlighted in blue — scan that first.
  • If the AI misinterprets a question, it self-corrects as more of the conversation becomes available.
  • Don't wait for the perfect suggestion. Use whatever is on screen as a springboard for your own answer.
9

To the Interviewer, Your Video and Behavior Look Completely Normal

The overlay is invisible to the interviewer. It doesn't appear in screen shares, recordings, or video feeds. Your webcam shows only you, and your audio feed contains only your voice.

  • The app uses a standard overlay technique that is excluded from screen capture APIs by design.
  • Video call recordings (Zoom cloud recordings, Teams recordings) do not capture the overlay.
  • Your natural eye movements toward the overlay look the same as glancing at notes — which is normal and expected in video interviews.
  • For maximum safety, do a test call with a friend to confirm the overlay is invisible on their end.

Quick Tips

  • Do a full dry run before your first real interview: install the app, configure stealth mode, and do a test session with a friend on a video call.
  • Practice using the hotkey until it's automatic. Fumbling with it during an interview adds unnecessary stress.
  • Position the overlay near your webcam. If you look down or far to the side to read suggestions, it's noticeable.
  • Don't over-rely on the overlay. Use it for prompts and reminders, not as a script. Natural delivery matters more than perfect content.
  • Keep the overlay font size large and the information density low. You need to scan in half a second, not read paragraphs.
